Yelper Lake George Quad Tue, Feb 23, 10
Here what you don't do with a quad over open water. I watched this guy drive from the direction of the narrows, towards pilot knob, he slowed down because he saw the open water, but thought he could make it. The gap was only 5 feet across, but the open water was 40 feet long. The entire quad and him were under the water. I jumped from my chair that I was jigging from and by the time I took 4 steps towards him, he bobbed back to the surface and lunged onto the ice. He grabbed his quad and held on to it, while his friend hooked the hitch onto the rack...STUPID!!!! It took all those guys 30 minutes to get it out...         view photo

Chief replied on Feb 25: New screensaver for the day!! I've been playing... which of these clowns is the biggest DumBass. I'm thinking the guy with the plank.

Him and his Dad caught 3 pike and 15 bass all day. 11lb and 13 1/2lb pike. 1st prize was $240, 2nd $100 and 3rd $50, great turn out..         view photo
Yelper Ice Fishing Contest - Round Lake Mon, Feb 15, 10
A friend of mine is running his annual ice fishing contest on Round Lake. $15 per man and 100% payout. Every fish counts, pike, bass, etc. Of course the bass have to be released. We enter the ice along route 9 and walk directly across from the launch. If your interested, it runs from 06:00 to 3:00 and look for the big home made ice shanty on the opposite side of the lake. You may fish anywhere on the lake, but the fish will be weighed in on my friends hand held electronic scale.
Yelper replied on Feb 15: The contest is on 2/21...Forgot to add that part..:0)
Yelper Lake George Ice Fishing Fri, Feb 12, 10
Heading to Lake George ice fishing in the morning if anyone is interested. Going out of Hearth Stone camp grounds and heading south. Fishing the sunken civil war boat in 95 feet of water. I trolled around it in late summer and marked allot of fish on it. Caught a couple of 25 inchers. We will see....
yelper replied on Feb 14: Lake George was a flop yesterday. One flag all day. Great food, good friends and the weather was great. Better then work...
ihunt4food Ice Fishing Contest Fri, Feb 05, 10
Is the Baily Mountain Rod and Gun Club Ice Fishing contest still on for tomorrow? If so, is anybody going?
ihunt4food replied on Feb 08: No Problem!
Yelper replied on Feb 06: ihunt, sorry I never saw the post until Saturday night. I went with a few guys and fished Glass Lake. We caught 14 pickerel and 6 bass. Allot of action, but none to enter. Your $10 got you a chance at a $550 Velixar depth finder. They also had door prizes, which took them a good hour to do. Great day and great tournament.

greenecounty1 bittersweet kinda feelin Mon, Jan 25, 10
Yesterday I was shed hunting and found the 1 I shot at first day of rifle season. 18 inch spred 10 pointer. We're figuring he's about 130. I guess this explains why I never seen him again and I hunted every day. I'm blessed with a piece of property where I'm the only one allowed to hunt; 270 acres. For 3 years I have been letting alot of smaller bucks go. Some of the surrounding landowners are doing the same thing. All in all there's almost 1000 acres of deer management goin on. The benefits are showing.         view photo
greenecounty1 replied on Feb 04: I had him scored by a Lt. Encon officer. He's 121 5/8. Not to bad. I know there's one that, if he don't get hit be a car, will be 4.5 next yr. A bigger 10 pointer was hit by a car during bow season right down the road and I've found 2 button buck hit already this winter. Sucks!
hollowvillehunter replied on Feb 03: not to busrt your bubble.. but more realistically after seeing your pics.. and with only an 18 in spread and short times im guessing your deer will score in the 105 range..either way sweet deer!!!
ketco5 trapping Sun, Jan 24, 10
Hey guys. I am interested in getting involved in trapping. Any info, websites or just general information anyone can point me to i would appreciate it Thanks
Bigunit68 replied on Jan 28: this is the site I found when i was looking for Coyote info. There are a lot of great guys willing to offer advice. http://www.nodakoutdoors.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=80
ketco5 replied on Jan 26: Thanks guys. I have been looking on the internet and asking around.I am starting at square one and really know nothing about it. I do know all the areas i hunt have a ton of coyotes that need to be removed
ridgerunner replied on Jan 26: Some good Magazines that cover alot of trapping are Fur-Fish-Game and Trapper and predator caller. I've bought alot of videos which were helpful also. Just google trapping and all kinds of stuff comes up. Fur prices are way down so now is the time to learn and make the mistakes, Good Luck
Yelper replied on Jan 24: I trapped when I was in high school, muskrats and raccoons. Your best bet is the web, NYS Trappers Assoc. has allot of info. I beleive you need to take the NYS Trappers Education course, of course so the state can collect a few bucks for a license. I did very well trapping the river for muskrats, but it was allot of work. You had to set and check your traps at low tide, so you may be checking late at night. Muskrats make runs in the mud leading to their houses under the banks and their huts that are visable in the water. They look like small beaver houses. 110 conibear traps worked very well when you find a good run. Leg hold traps for coons and fox on land. Good Luck

elmerFudd A YouTube Video for you nutZ Fri, Jan 08, 10
When you go out, you're lucky if you see a deer, and even luckier to see buck! The day I shot my 8 pointer, I was walking back to my truck to get my deer disecting kit. 40 yards away was a little 6 pointer. I stood there and scoped him out for a couple minutes then remembered i had my iPhone. Here's a video of him standing there. He heeds my warning about the gun season! Smart fella but not that smart though, I coulda shot him 100 times over well. ...4 times cuZ thats how many rounds I had left lol.... I Hope he made it.         watch video

Jonnylaw Coyotes Sun, Jan 03, 10
got out yesterday and tried our best to coax one in, but I guess they didn't like what I had to say. We'll keep at it and see if we can't help reduce the population. I f anyone is having luck, let me know what they are responding to...please! Good luck and stay WARM!
Bigunit68 replied on Jan 07: Yeah, I saw that. I've been a member of that sight since 2006. I'm too lazy to make that. I just bought the FX5 instead. But that is a great design. I actually like this site because it's mostly local guys. I've met a few and they have all been really great guys.
deadworms replied on Jan 06: decoy is done and making finishing touches on electronic caller.. http://www.nodakoutdoors.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=20626
Bigunit68 replied on Jan 06: Sorry, I just saw your response. We usually pile them up (down wind). But, honestly, they don't go to waste. One weekend we shot close to 70 birds. Left a pile sunday night. The next Saturday we pulled in and there were two hawks sitting on a pile of feathers and bones. Everything was gone. There are a lot of coyotes, fox and hawks where we hunt. We're going out again this weekend.
greenecounty1 replied on Jan 05: I havn't had no vocal responses. I think Im gonna start picking up roadkills and hunt over bait. I'm finding out these yotes aren't dumb...
jonnylaw replied on Jan 04: make it coyote bait! :o)
elmerFudd replied on Jan 04: what do you do with a crow once you shoot it?
Bigunit68 replied on Jan 04: We went out Saturday. With the wind and cold we decided to just build a blind and do some crow calling. I brought everything with me for both yotes and crow. Even with the wind and cold we nailed about 30 crows. Hopefully we'll have a little better weather this weekend. I bought some heavy duty Browning XPO Bibs and Jacket at Gander last Sept. They were the warmest I've bought so far. They were clearance at Gander. They're normally $189 each, they were marked 99.97 and that day they had a 50% off clearance. I got the whole outfit for $100. I don't know if any of you have gone to Gander but the one in Kingston is only about an hour away. It's a lot better than our local hunting store. Theres also a Sonic about a half mile from there (for all you fast food lovers).
